Why does Tyndale House need your support?

Tyndale House is a resource for the entire global church, providing support for thorough and detailed scholarly study of the Bible. Most of those who use the library currently exercise or will exercise significant leadership roles in the church.

In order to maintain our independence of political influence Tyndale House is entirely funded by private support. Because we are generally hosting students, missionaries, pastors and low-waged faculty, we subsidize use of our facilities considerably. We need your support to allow us to continue to resource those who will resource the global church.

Former readers at Tyndale House include J.I. Packer, John Stott, Wayne Grudem, D.A. Carson, and John Piper. We hope that many of the current generation of scholars at Tyndale will go on to have similar impact on the churches in their own home countries and worldwide.

Dr Gene L. Green, Professor of New Testament at Wheaton College, explains the unique ministry of Tyndale House and its ongoing needs in this short video:

Your donation will help in various aspects of our work including:

  • Library provision: In order to maintain the library's status as a world-class biblical research centre, we need to continue to expand the library collection of all relevant academic texts. Each year, this requires a larger budget as more books are published and prices rise. We are also expanding the library staff and increasing the IT facilities in the library.
  • STEP project: Scripture Tools for Every Person is Tyndale House’s ongoing project to make the best resources for biblical studies freely available to everyone who needs them. We have already launched a beta version www.stepbible.org which has been used by over 80,000 individuals. This software uniquely aims to make scholarly Bible tools capable of working on phones and low-spec computers (even with intermittent or no internet access). The STEP Project aims to grant all believers access to a wealth of resources previously only available to specialist scholars.
  • Majority World Scholars: Even at their current subsidised rates, the cost of library use and accommodation at Tyndale House is prohibitive for many students and scholars from the majority world. We would like to be able to extend bursaries to more of these students to enable them to benefit from the resources and community here.
Specific financial needs in 2015:
  • Fund to bring scholars from Africa to Tyndale House: £25,000 (€34,250; $38,750)
  • Fund to bring scholars from Cuba to Tyndale House for intensive study of Hebrew: £23,000 (€31,510; $35,650)
  • Sponsor surveys and planning necessary for expanding the Tyndale House facilities: £19,000 (€26,030; $29,450)
  • Fund to bring scholars from Central and Eastern Europe to Tyndale House: £10,000 (€13,700; $15,500)
  • Sponsorship for the desk of a named scholar for one year: £3,000 (€4,110; $4,650)
  • Sponsor a newsletter from Tyndale House: £2,500 (€3,425; $3,875)
  • In addition to these needs we have numerous things we would like to do subject to the availability of funding. If you are interested in making a one-off investment which will move the organization to a new level, we would be glad to talk to you.
Every supporter who can give us a gift of any size helps us to raise up more Bible scholars to serve the church. We would be particular delighted if you could join with us by providing a donation or monthly support.

The American Friends of Tyndale House provide facilities for USA tax-deductable giving in accordance with 501(c)(3), including monthly donations.
