Archives of Tyndale House

The archives of Tyndale House range from 1950 to 1999. They record the activities of Tyndale House and the library, the minutes of the Biblical Research Committee of the Inter-Varsity Fellowship, the minutes of the Tyndale House Council, and the minutes of the Tyndale Fellowship Committee. There is also miscellaneous material including correspondence by Andrew Walls (Travelling Secretary for IVF, Secretary of BRC, Librarian, 1952-1957), Colin Hemer (Librarian, 1980-1982, and Research Fellow to 1987).

Burkitt Papers

Francis Crawford Burkitt (1864-1935), biblical scholar, became Norris Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge from 1905. The archive consists of five letters, notes and two press cuttings connected with Burkitt.

2 Letter (4 p.) Written from Red Cross Hospital in Giza by E.C. Hoskyns. Addressee unnamed (but not Burkitt): Discussion of chaplain duties in the hospital (ie. communion) and arrivial of the Bishop. Also discusses the Coptic and Syriac churches, whether clergy should enlist, and the Senussi tribe and their beliefs. Burkitt is mentioned on p. 3. 25 Nov [During Great War]
3 Letter (4 p.) A.A. Bevan to F.C. Burkitt: Discussion of the work needed to publish C.W. Mitchell's S. Ephraim's Prose Refutations of Mani, Marcion and Bardaisan, based on BM Add. 14623 and published posthumously in 1921. Bevan talks of handing over Mitchell's papers to Burkitt. 19 Dec 1918

Holden Sermons

The Rev. John Stuart Holden (1874-1934), Vicar of St. Paul's, Portman Square, became chairman of the Christian Missionary Society and six times chairman of the Keswick Convention. He was also editor of The Christian 1915-1920.

The archive contains forty-two of Holden's notebooks, containing various manuscript notes for sermons between 1905 and 1918. Three of these notebooks are indexes to the sermons, giving, place, date and topic. The archive also includes four Holden notebooks with material relating to prayers, order of services and liturgy.

The handwritten accessions lists (120 p.) for books collected by the egyptologist and biblical scholar, Professor Kenneth A. Kitchen (1932-). They were donated to Tyndale House in 2011.



Wiseman Papers

The archive of material relating to the assyriologist, archaeologist and biblical scholar, Professor Donald Wiseman (1918-2010), was donated to Tyndale House in 2010. Work on listing the archive is not yet complete.
